“Rest is not idleness…and is by no means a waste of time.” - John Lubbock
I know that it’s all about having a hot girl summer, but hear me out- what if a self-care summer is what we really need?
This summer, things are slowly going back to normal (We Outside!); clubs and other venues are re-opening, and boozy brunches are back with a vengeance. A lot of people are rushing to get back to “Business as Usual”; however, let’s stop to reflect for a moment.
The past year brought with it an immense amount of change, and in very little time. From social justice issues taking front stage, to a tumultuous administration shift, a riot in the Capital, and humanitarian efforts heard round the world, it’s goes without saying that we’ve all endured a great deal.
In addition to all of the swift changes, demands due to capitalism have still been on our necks. Juggling a work/school-load, possible family responsibilities, and SURVIVAL has been no small feat.
Now, all we want to do is forget about the loss and hardship, and just be carefree, as the summer season tends to inspire us to do.
In fact, it can cause us to want to take our fun a bit too far, and ignore our needs.
.
How about adding a hot yoga session into your weekend plans? Or, make some time for journaling (just 10 minutes) in the morning before rushing out to work? Maybe a solo vacation (or staycation) would do wonders for your mental health.
Please, do all of the summer things; like meeting your girls at Prospect Park for a day of rose and games, or showing off a fierce fit at the next rooftop party. Just don’t forget to check in with yourself! Maybe a quiet night of Netflix will be just what you need one Friday night, and not that bar crawl. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to make up for “lost time” due to the pandemic.
You have time. Make sure you’re taking good care of yourself.
As always, Be Well!
